 EME SPRING 2022

Hello! My name is Lindsey Kaplan, I'm 21 years old, and I am a junior at Florida State University. I am currently majoring in sociology, and minoring in education. I am from Boca Raton, Florida, which is about a 7-hour drive south of Tallahassee. While growing up, I was inspired by so many amazing teachers, which made me want to enter the education field myself! I am excited to learn how to incorporate technology into education, and I look forward to this class.
While attending school, I often had to use technology in class for projects and assignments. I have used Microsoft Office for a very long time, but I am just learning how to become comfortable using Microsoft Excel. Furthermore, I have used websites such as Kahoot, Prezi, and other supplemental technology while being a student. Personally, I would consider myself very comfortable using technology, but I also am aware that I could improve my skills. I have the basics of educational technology under my belt, but I could learn how to use technology more efficiently than I do now!
Technology is essential in supporting my learning needs and my learning goals. Two technological resources I frequently use are Grammarly and Speechify. Grammarly is great for helping with my grammar and spelling when typing essays. I also commonly use speechify when reading online textbooks. Speechify reads online text out loud, which helps me focus on the content I am reading. Furthermore, I use resources such as Zoom to support my learning goals. During Covid, online classes all took place on zoom, which allowed me to connect with my teachers online and successfully learn the content of the course.

Blog Journal #6

Initially, I was very confused by Diigo, but after doing the participation assignments on Diigo, it made more sense to me. I thought the website seemed a bit “outdated” in its appearance, but then I realized it can be very useful for group collaboration, discussion, and resource sharing.  So far, I have loved the blogging experience! I think that posting these discussion posts and other information to my Blogger page has been much more interesting than simply posting to canvas! Furthermore, I enjoy how the blog is customizable to your needs and personal styles, and how different widgets can be added. The addition of widgets on the blog is a great touch! During the blogging process I have learned a lot about the layout and format of posts, and also how to make a website look appealing to others.  An interesting web 2.0 tool I have found to use while teaching is Khan Academy. I think that Kahn Academy is a great resource for students who need extra help quickly and...

Copyright and fair use are two very important concepts that apply to education, media (music, film, television), and product creation and innovation. Copyright is what protects online and in-person creations such as art, literature, products, logos, etc. When something is copyrighted, permission must be granted prior to using the creation and credit must be given if one uses the creation. On the other hand, fair use is when others' creations can be used but must be used in addition to one “new work”. Fair use also requires that the creator is not gaining monetary benefit from adding to somebody else's work.  While dealing with the concepts in regard to education, teachers and students must be very careful about the sources and media types used in a classroom. For example, if a copyrighted worksheet is online, I must gain permission from the owner before using it in my classroom, or else I would be subject to legal troubles. These concepts need to be taught in the classroom s...
