Blog Journal #9

  This semester, I was a distance learner. Aside from this course, I had three other online courses, and one course in person. Due to the fact that I had one class in person, I am able to draw conclusions about the differences between online and in-person classes this semester. Personally, I really enjoy distance learning. I never had any online classes prior to COVID, but now, I actually find them more accommodating than in-person classes. I enjoy the flexibility of distance learning, and the ability to be able to work at your own pace, within reason. Something I dislike about distance learning is the accountability that you have to have over yourself to stay on track. Sometimes, if my life gets very busy, I do not sit down and watch lecture videos on the schedule I like to follow. With the flexibility of distance learning, also comes great accountability and responsibility that one must uphold for themselves. Blog Journal #8

  During the Web Design Assignment, I learned many things! I had never used “Weebly” before, so figuring out how to use the site building tool was a learning curve, but once I got it, it was easy! Additionally, I learned lots about how to embed things within a website. The term “embedding” seemed a lot scarier than the actual task was! I liked being able to learn how to build a website because I think it's a useful task. I also enjoyed making the website created for the students. Although I really enjoyed this assignment, the only thing I could see that would make it better would be to use a different site than Weebly, as I thought Weebly seemed a bit dated.   1. I believe that teacher pages on school websites are very important. Oftentimes, students and parents are interested in a class prior to taking it, and having teacher pages help students and parents assess if the class is right for the student. Furthermore, students do not always share teacher information with their parents, so it is important that the parents have an area where they can find course material and teacher contact information without the involvement of the student. Additionally, sometimes student websites may face problems like shutdowns and maintenance, so having a backup option for a teacher to display class information can come in handy.  The kinds of information that are seen publicly include information about the class, information about the teacher, and links to external sources. Blog Journal #6

    Initially, I was very confused by Diigo, but after doing the participation assignments on Diigo, it made more sense to me. I thought the website seemed a bit “outdated” in its appearance, but then I realized it can be very useful for group collaboration, discussion, and resource sharing.  So far, I have loved the blogging experience! I think that posting these discussion posts and other information to my Blogger page has been much more interesting than simply posting to canvas! Furthermore, I enjoy how the blog is customizable to your needs and personal styles, and how different widgets can be added. The addition of widgets on the blog is a great touch! During the blogging process I have learned a lot about the layout and format of posts, and also how to make a website look appealing to others.  An interesting web 2.0 tool I have found to use while teaching is Khan Academy. I think that Kahn Academy is a great resource for students who need extra help quickly and cost-effectively.

  The grade level I selected from the list of ELA standards was 12th grade. The standard I chose was “Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media (e.g., visually, quantitatively, as well as in words) in order to address a question or solve a problem.” This standard basically means that the teacher must present different kinds of media to the students in the classroom to be used in an educational way. I believe that I could implement this standard. Although I know of many educational tools already, luckily, there are many online sources and reference pages for different kinds of technological tools. If I were to combine my previous knowledge about how to use technology, and if I research new tools, I could implement information sharing in diverse ways.    The grade level I selected was 12th grade. The tool that I selected to use in my classroom is “SC.912.E.6.1” which is a resource on how to teach high school students about earth science

  Copyright and fair use are two very important concepts that apply to education, media (music, film, television), and product creation and innovation. Copyright is what protects online and in-person creations such as art, literature, products, logos, etc. When something is copyrighted, permission must be granted prior to using the creation and credit must be given if one uses the creation. On the other hand, fair use is when others' creations can be used but must be used in addition to one “new work”. Fair use also requires that the creator is not gaining monetary benefit from adding to somebody else's work.  While dealing with the concepts in regard to education, teachers and students must be very careful about the sources and media types used in a classroom. For example, if a copyrighted worksheet is online, I must gain permission from the owner before using it in my classroom, or else I would be subject to legal troubles. These concepts need to be taught in the classroom so
